THREAD:// — THE SPATIAL WEB, OPEN FROM DAY ONE
The Thread is an open standard for addressable 3D places. You author a world.json, host it on any web server, and it becomes a walkable world — linked to every other world through portals. No account with anyone. No engine lock-in. The manifest is the medium.
The viewer opens right here — nothing to install, phone included. The browser is the real thing: you walk it, and the people in it are really there.
thread://host/path ← the address (a place) │ resolve ▼ world.json (the manifest) ← what you author: geometry + meaning + portals + presence │ fetch + render ▼ a walkable world ← any conformant browser renders it; travelers appear
You arrive as someone: a Passport is one portable identity that every host verifies against your issuer's published keys — no signup per world, and worlds hold a reference to you rather than a copy. Presenting one is optional; a world MUST work for travelers who stay anonymous.
Portals are explicit links between worlds — which makes the Thread a web, crawlable and open, not a walled platform. The normative specs and governance are public; conformance is decided by a suite, not by us.
This is early. The specs are v0.1 drafts. The reference browser (Infinite) ships for Linux, macOS and Windows. The presence relay went live in August 2026 — worlds are just beginning to have people in them. If you build now, you are genuinely early, and the door to shaping the standard is open.
